Niagara Falls' Horseshoe Falls |
American, Bridal Veil and Horseshoe Falls (left to right) |
The Horseshoe Falls is the biggest amongst the three and what is mistaken by most people as the Niagara Falls alone. It is called Horseshoe Falls obviously after the way that the Falls is shaped. The massive U-shaped Falls connects Canada to the US. Opinions whether it is better seen from Canada side or US side is mixed.
The American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls are both inside US territory but arguably better viewed from Canada's side for obvious reasons. Luna Island is the one separating the two Falls. American Falls is the bigger of the two which is the Falls on the left looking from Canada's side. Bridal Veil Falls is the smallest amongst three waterfalls that collectively makes up Niagara Falls.

From chitchats transferred by word of mouth, there is some kind of a quiet competition between the USA and Canada with regards fighting over tourists who wants to see and experience the beauty of the Falls. It is said that Canada was the first one to beautify the surroundings of the Falls that eventually turned into a prime tourist spot. They named the area Niagara Parks for obvious reasons. Tourists from all over the world flock to the park and Niagara Falls all of a sudden became Canada's main tourist attraction.
It did not take long for the neighboring USA to take notice and seeing the potential of generating local business in the area, the project to have their own side of the Falls be turned into a tourist spot was started. The area was then named Niagara Falls State Park. We have been there too and we can say that the US did a good job on the area as well but Niagara Falls being already branded as Canada's tourist attraction, there are considerably more people going to Canada's side.
