Another staple in Puerto Princesa, Palawan city tours is the Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center. It is also known as Crocodile Farm and Nature Park. They used to have mainly just crocodiles and alligators and they slowly added other animals so that is probably why they changed their name. It is probably the biggest attraction in Puerto Princesa city proper. It is a very educational trip and they have very knowledgeable tour guides.
The tour starts every half an hour with an average of about 20 people per group. It starts right in the lobby off of the entrance to the main building. Right there we were welcomed by a huge crocodile bone encased in a glass as well as its skin hanging on the wall. The guide explained that this is the biggest crocodile caught in Palawan. She also said that the towns people actually hunted this crocodile because it is believed to have eaten a young teenage boy. Hearing this story makes you think twice whether you should swim in the beautiful beaches of Palawan or not.
Past the main lobby we were ushered into an audio visual room to watch a short educational film. It was about 15 minute long. And the topic is of course, none other than crocodiles and the history of the park.
After the short film, we went to the main farm. This is where crocodiles are grown. We were shown different sizes of crocodiles from about a foot and a half long to 4 feet long. The guide explained that they stay in the farm until they are big enough to be thrown back to the wild.
Other than crocodiles and alligators,Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center have gathered other exotic animals from different kinds of birds to rare hogs and rodents.
