Philadelphia is a city so rich in history. This is where the founding fathers of the United States signed the Declaration of Independence. Once upon a time, Philadelphia was also temporarily the capital of the United States while Washington, DC was still being constructed. Being one of the oldest cities in the United States, it is no surprise that there are a number of historical landmarks in the city of Philadelphia. Amongst this historical landmarks, the Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell are the most popular.
Movie goers and Nicolas Cage fans all over the world know these landmarks from famous scenes in the movie National Treasure. For Americans and history buffs, the Liberty Bell and the Independence Hall are known as famous symbols of America's Freedom.
Getting to Independence Hall and Liberty Bell by car is a bit of a pain. Looking for parking is almost impossible. You can forget about looking for cheap street parking spaces because there is never one spot empty, unless you want to drive around for hours waiting to get lucky and see a car just leaving a spot for you to take. The 20usd fee parking lots are worth it but even they sometimes are fully packed especially in peak season.
There are a number of things to do around the area. You can take some walking tours or ride the Amphibious Vehicle/Duck Tours. Entrance to the Liberty Bell Center is free and you can see a number of artifacts and interesting facts about the Liberty Bell. And of course, no trip to Philadelphia is complete without having a famous Philly Cheesesteak.
